The entire family will enjoy holiday shopping with craft and gift vendors, local business sidewalk sales, raffles, and restaurant food and drink specials, all along Chautauqua Avenue and other areas across Lakewood. “We want to bring a nostalgic, old-fashioned, spirit of the holiday season to the Village of Lakewood for the area residents,” says Mayor Cara Birrittieri.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive with their elves at 5 p.m. and will be available for children’s visits and photographs by parents until 8 p.m. A live reindeer will make an appearance from 12 noon to 3:30 p.m. along with free horse drawn wagon rides from 4 to 6 p.m.
The Holiday Lights Contest, sponsored by the Lakewood Historical Committee, setting the festive scene for Christmas in the Village, will be judged on Wednesday, December 7 during the day for businesses and evening hours for resident homes, with $50 for first place – both residence and business categories – with honorable mention certificates for second place.
The Holiday Pie and Cookie Baking Contest will earn the first place winner $25, second-place $15, third-place $10. Contest rules available when registering at the Lakewood Village Clerk’s office, 20 W. Summit in Lakewood.
The day will end with a double tree lighting, along with award recognition of the Holiday Lights Contest winners and the Holiday Pie and Cookie Baking Contest Winners, at 7:30 p.m. in Recognition Park, on Chautauqua Ave., and 7:45 p.m. at Richard O. Hartley Park. Contest registration is at the Lakewood Village clerk’s office, 20 West Summit St. in Lakewood up until 4 p.m. on Saturday (judging begins 4:15 p.m.).
